The swell readings that were available from dubaicoast.org are no longer there. The site redirects to a new PITA website where you have to register to view wave height charts and other data, although current reading and photos are displayed on the home page, which is at least enough to know if there are waves ... assuming it's correct. It shows a SE swell just now. I've never seen waves heading away from the shore before
The registration page asks for telephone numbers and addresses etc, and even a reason why you want to register . You can enter any old crap, you get logged straight in without having to confirm anything. You do need to enter an email address for the username though.
I don't see an easy way to access the coastal monitoring data without registration and so can't provide a direct link from the home page anymore .
If that changes, I'll update it. |

that website is now hosted in australia?! wtf??
why would someone take it down there of all places??
Strange...
one thing i found out though is you can still get the measurement summaries without registering - for example http://www.dubaicoast-uat.socialchange.net.au/topics/2513.html
But what a pain in the ar$e to use - so many layers - whoever designed this has no idea about interface design and interactivity concepts! |

Registered and viewed a Wave Height query, measuring place JOB?? also wave direction query from UMMSUQEIM.
I don't understand why the site is not hosted under its own like how it was before. Perhaps the database is run by a team of Australians? I don't know... |

Yes, I was wondering about that page. I'm not sure it's updated though - information there looks different to what's on the home page this morning.

Not that I'm a Webi Master but yes, I agree.
Looks like we might have to rely more on the Dubai surf reports to keep us updated. Anyone living at Sunset beach might just suddenly find themselves with a lot more new friends |

What a pain in the Ar$e!! I Loved the ease of access to the previous site.
The info on the homepage is always down so i suppose I will have to register now!
I happen to live right near the beach and an always texting everyone with updates including from the crack of dawn too for the very dedicated SOD's. If you want to join my list mail me with your name and number at:
carl@filmworksdubai.com
and I will add you to my list and you can get some text updates when there is swell or we are expecting some. |

Well either I am stupid or its not working as their is no data on the home page and none will download in the data section even AFTER I registered. Seems like the bureaucracy of Dubai has even made it into our surfing lives. What a pity.
Means I have to go down to the beach to check the surf......
Incidentally my name on it is LLLLLLLLLLLLL KKKKKKKKKKKKK |

Hey All
Once again the graph and swell charts are down!! Its down more than its working!! Who runs the operation? Is it local or is there a contact as I persbnally find it a vital tool for checking whether there is surf or not.
The swell is moving but the charts have stopped at 8am. Short of going down to the beach we cannot tell if there is a wave or not.
What do we do or is there nothing that can be done? |

Well, maybe if enough of us point out that their site is not as good as the old one, they might change. After all, on the home page they say...

| We hope that you find this new site even more valuable than our old dubaicoast.org site. |
And they say we can contact them...

Is it me or does the swell always look bigger on the palm side of the burj in the Coastal zone pics. Perhaps its cos its closer but it always looks like there is more swell there.
What do you think? |

Oh, I thought past that already........
I have a 2 person canoe that I fish off and no-one has ever stopped me when I paddle around there. Who says I cant take some boards on it and anchor it off the backline.....
Paddle round the burj too maybe?
Just a thought... |
